Ames Adventure

This past weekend Brad, my mom and I made the trek up to Ames, IA, to take engagement pictures. Why go to Ames, you ask? Because Iowa is such an exciting place to be! Just kidding. Actually Ames was really cool, but that’s not the reason we drove four hours there to take pictures. I am very blessed to have two wonderful aunts that happen to be wedding photographers! Unfortunately, they live near Minneapolis, MN, so we decided to meet in the middle.

The weekend began cold and rainy, but God brought out the sun for a few short hours and we were able to get some great photos. Unfortunately, the sun did not bring warmth, but I was determined to wear the new dress I bought just for this occasion. My little red dress did very little for keeping me warm in the 60-degree weather, but I toughed it out for cuteness.

A few pictures were posted on Facebook as a preview to the full edition. I’m very excited to see all of the pictures after they have been edited! Here are a few of my favorites:

Brad & I painted this little sign together. I’m planning on hanging it next to this picture in our house!

We got some pretty good air!

I love this one of us, but it really makes me wish I would have done some tanning.

Of course, every good road trip has a run-in with the police. On Sunday morning we decided to take a few more pictures before we hit the road. We headed down to the (very busy) railroad tracks. Next thing you know, Officer Ed Morton has pulled up and is telling us that he is video taping the conversation we were about to have with him. After a moment of panic on our part, he realized that we were not union railroad workers protesting, but taking engagement pictures. We all had a good laugh and he took a picture with us.

I’ll be sharing more pictures soon!!

A Rainy Weekend + Life Update

Life lately has been a mixture of the joy of preparing for marriage and the stress of planning a future. Everyday is one day closer to being married and starting a new life. The prospect of newness is exciting, but also scary and unsure. As of a week ago, Brad and I were planning to move to Kansas City in just one short month without jobs or a plan for how to start our new life. Much time has been spent in prayer as we’ve been trusting the Lord to guide us to the next step. Faithfully, a door has been opened and our plans have changed. I will be continuing my education at Missouri State University in Springfield to pursue my master’s in biology. I was blessed to be accepted with a teaching assistantship that will cover the cost of tuition and fees, plus provide a stipend. Brad has begun searching for a job in the area. We trust that the Lord will continue to provide for us as we start our adventure in a new city.

Until then, I am finishing up my last month of school. Graduation is so close, yet there is still much to be done in these five weeks. This weekend was the last “relaxing” weekend of the semester. We got to enjoy it by studying, going to the lake to collect water samples (for my independent water-testing study), and shopping.

My days spent studying on my twin bed in my college apartment are coming to a close. It feels bittersweet, but mostly sweet. I’m really exciting to start looking for places to live in Springfield!

A weekend just isn’t complete without ice cream.

After having an iPhone for a couple of weeks, I’ve decided I most definitely prefer a traditional game of scrabble.

I always feel bad when I try on a million things and walk out of the store without buying anything.

Snapshots of Lately

Brad and I recently ventured into adult married life and set up a phone plan together. Both of our contracts were up and our parents were as eager for us to get off of their plans as we were to be rid of T-Mobile. So we each got the iPhone 4S, which is totally exciting because I’ve never even had a smart phone before, let alone a fancy iPhone. Of course I’ve been obsessively playing Words with Friends and constantly finding reasons to tweet something since Twitter is right at my fingertips. I expected Instagram would also be one of my favorite apps, which has proved to be true. Here are a few recent snapshots of life.

Brad and I love to be outside. It was very warm in Bolivar last week, so of course we took advantage of the nice weather and went on a few walks! Evening walks are one thing I’m going to miss about Bolivar.

Taking a look at my phone photos is an easy indication of where I spend most of my time: the lab. Doesn’t that second picture look good enough to drink? Mmmm… brass and potassium iodate :)

Starbucks dates are my favorite. I’m really looking forward to living in a city that has a Starbucks.
